OPHIDIAN SKYE FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER LAUNCHED

Ophidian SKYE Floorstanding Loudspeaker hifi news

British manufacturer Ophidian has introduced the Ophidian SKYE, a new floorstanding loudspeaker designed and assembled in the UK.

The model combines traditional cabinet styling with modern acoustic engineering and joins the company’s S-series alongside the SEREN standmount.

OPHIDIAN SKYE FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER

Standing at approximately one metre tall, the Ophidian SKYE is positioned as a full-range loudspeaker suited to contemporary domestic environments.

The SKYE features a cabinet finished in real wood veneer, available in oak or walnut. The enclosure has been developed with attention to structural integrity and resonance control, with the port system also contributing to cabinet bracing. The overall design aims to balance physical presence with room-friendly proportions.

DRIVER CONFIGURATION

The loudspeaker uses a dual 7-inch (180mm) alloy bass driver arrangement. These are configured in an M-T-M (midwoofer-tweeter-midwoofer) layout, with one driver positioned above and one below the ट्वीeter. The driver interface between cone and surround has been engineered to improve integration and maintain a consistent response, particularly through the vocal range.

AEROFLEX BASS SYSTEM

Ophidian’s proprietary Aeroflex bass system is incorporated into the design. This system is intended to improve bass speed and reduce distortion at low frequencies, while also contributing to cabinet rigidity. The result is a low-frequency performance focused on control and articulation rather than sheer output.

OPHIDIAN SKYE FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER TWEETER, CROSSOVER AND COMPONENTS

High-frequency reproduction is handled by a tweeter from Norwegian driver manufacturer SEAS. The unit features a wide roll surround and a one-piece diaphragm coated with Sonolex for damping. Internally, the crossover network uses components from Mundorf, including air-cored coils, polypropylene capacitors, and non-inductive resistors, selected to maintain signal integrity across the frequency range.

The crossover has been specifically optimised for the M-T-M configuration to support smooth off-axis response. The combination of driver layout and crossover design is intended to deliver balanced dispersion and consistent tonal performance across a listening area.

OPHIDIAN SKYE FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

The Ophidian SKYE is priced at £3995 including VAT in the UK, available in oak or walnut finishes.

HiFi PiG Says: Ophidian makes fantastic, British loudspeakers, and it is a pleasure to see them growing their range.
